Just a few hours after the transfer window opened, PSG announced their first signing in the form of Russian goalkeeper Safonov. The 25-year-old was tied down to the Parc des Princes until 2029 having impressed for homeland side Krasnodar since 2017.

PSG's No.1 stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma has come under criticism in recent years but will now have some serious competition to keep him on his toes. The French giants strive to compete in the Champions League every season and will need each individual in their squad to perform at their peak if they are to win that elusive Champions League trophy – including the goalkeepers.

Speaking for the first time as a PSG player, he said: "I’m really happy to be joining Paris Saint-Germain, one of the world’s biggest clubs in terms of its history and what it has won. I can’t wait to meet my new teammates, defend my new colours and make the fans proud. Allez Paris!"

Safonov is a fully established Russian international. The promising goalkeeper has earned 14 caps for his country and featured at Euro 2020 during Russia's matches against Finland and Denmark.
